About the Team & Role
The Hadoop team is central to eBay’s data infrastructure. It ensures scalable, reliable systems that power our data processing needs and supports our mission to use data insights to drive smarter decisions and elevate the customer experience.
As part of this team, your work will focus on:

Scope: Managing and improving Hadoop-based systems to handle eBay’s massive data scale, developing tools for internal and external users, and integrating these systems with other technologies.

What You’ll Do

Ensure System Availability & Scalability
Lead optimization efforts for Hadoop systems to ensure they remain highly available, efficient, and ready to scale with growing data demands. You’ll play a key role in maintaining uptime and supporting long-term business growth. -
Lead High-Impact Data Projects
Drive initiatives that improve eBay’s capacity to manage and analyze massive datasets. Your work will enhance system speed and reliability — core components of our data infrastructure. -
Build Innovative Tools
Develop user-facing tools that enhance usability and operational efficiency. These tools will help teams across eBay better access and utilize data insights. -
Improve System Integration
Ensure Hadoop systems work seamlessly with other platforms, supporting a unified data ecosystem. This will reduce manual work, increase collaboration, and enable data-driven decisions across teams.
What You’ll Bring

A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related discipline

Solid programming experience in Java, Scala, or Python, with a strong grasp of algorithms and data structures for writing efficient, high-performing code

Familiarity with Linux/Unix environments, including shell scripting and system operations

Understanding of networking concepts, as Hadoop systems are distributed across multiple machines

Strong analytical skills for solving complex problems in distributed systems and optimizing performance
Bonus: Experience with big data tools and open-source contributions in the Hadoop ecosystem is a plus.
